Sôfû is an “inzatsu” cultivar, a cross between Yabukita and Inzatsu 131. Sôfû is renowned for its distinct aromas and is popular among experts for both sencha and oolong. However, Sôfû is much less commonly used when producing black teas.

This black tea has very distinct aromas, which are characteristic of black teas made using inzatsu cultivars. In the nose, there is a mix of flower and honey aromas with bitter almond nuances. The aromas are strongly reminiscent of “umeshu” (a Japanese liqueur made with green plums).

On the palate, this black tea from Iwata is delicate, is sweet, has almost no astringency, and is very fluid. The overall experience is fruity, but never develops a sweet thick sensation. In the finish, there are umeshu aromas.

Here is a very unique black tea that is relatively light and very aromatic.
