SSCG Company Profile

Welcome

Tea as respite. Tea as lineage. Tea as more than trend.

That’s the story of Sushe Chaguan — one that officially begins in 2014, but connects to a narrative that originated centuries ago.

Our History

Our “dormitory teahouse” is rooted in over a decade of personal practice.

Like many others, Adeline’s entry to the world of tea began with names like Harney & Sons, David’s Tea, and TWG. While she was studying in the United States in the early 2010s, these scented, blended concoctions served as her initial proving ground.

In 2018, her fledgling corporate career brought her to Japan, where tea became a daily respite amidst a hectic schedule.

Shortly after resigning, she moved abroad once more —  this time to the source of the oldest tea tradition in the world, China.

During her half-year in Beijing, Adeline’s days were punctuated with regular tea sessions full of reflection. She lived in a dorm, brewed tea daily for friends, and visited the Maliandao Tea Market every week. Some days, she’d sip tea in the presence of her tea master, his wife, and their friends. It was in those moments that Sushe Chaguan — the “dormitory teahouse” — took formal shape.

Upon return to Indonesia, further exploration revealed that tea has played a significant part in Adeline’s lineage. Her genealogy can be traced to tulou in southeastern Fujian, where tea was the daily beverage of choice, much like the rest of the country. The generations that followed emigrated in Central Java, Indonesia, establishing a tea factory that operated for several decades.

Adeline’s career in tea is, in many ways, a return home.

About Adeline

After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Suffolk University, Adeline Esther worked for some time as a salarywoman in Japan. She is fluent in business and day-to-day Japanese (JLPT N1 certification and excellent scores in Business Japanese Proficiency Test). She also speaks functional Chinese. In 2025, she received her Japanese Tea Master certification.

What Sushe Chaguan does

Sushe Chaguan procures Chinese and Japanese tea of the highest quality for a discerning audience.

We communicate directly with local farms and factories to acquire consistent blends and exclusive lots; we negotiate in Japanese and Mandarin for the fairest prices; we assess and curate rigorously to identify the finest specimens; we deal with international shipping, taxes, and duties so that our customers don’t have to.

Sushe Chaguan was established as a business entity in Japan to serve global clients. Adeline’s day-to-day operations are based out of Jakarta and Surabaya, in twin tea studios that also function as her office. Business activities are carried out from Indonesia, China, and Japan.

Her family operates a Japan company based in Osaka; matcha purchases sit under that company.

Our Philosophy

Real quality speaks for itself, and Sushe Chaguan listens. We curate tea with discernment for those who understand that true satisfaction comes from quality, not contrived glamour. Good tea should be consumed thoughtfully, with an approach rooted in truth and wisdom.

Partnership Guidelines

Our clients receive the finest quality teas in the amounts they need to conduct their day-to-day activities, whether one gram or thousands. We work primarily with partners who value curation, transparency, and long-term relationships.

If you’re seeking long-term collaboration grounded in quality, we’d love to hear from you. But if you’re looking for low-cost or mass-market tea, this may not be the right fit.

Depending on the season and harvest, the availability of our loose-leaf teas will shift. However, we take care to inform clients well in advance.

Why partner with SSCG?

For the right partners, SSCG offers the chance at a relationship that mirrors the teas curated. They last.

Access. Wisdom. Deep relationships.

Curated guidance

Every tea in the collection is true to type, ready to drink now, balanced in the cup, and capable of leaving a quiet, lasting echo after the session. What reaches your hands works as it is intended, though support is available should you require adjustments to the recipes and ingredients you have on hand.

Steady, reliable supply

Trust from customers is a gift. Loyalty is harder to earn. We work closely with our partner farms and factories to ensure that our powder blends are consistent from season to season, year to year. Sushe Chaguan’s collaborators can be confident in our reliable supply. Each month’s batch is blended freshly to keep drift minimal.

Our partner matcha factories hold FSSC 22000 and “ISO & HACCP” safety certifications, specifically meeting and surpassing ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 standards. They additionally list AIB “Superior,” USDA Organic, JAS Organic, EU Organic, and OU Kosher.

Our B2B offerings

Tea Powders (Matcha/Hojicha/etc)

Though other suppliers may face sudden shortages of powdered teas, we work hard to ensure our clients can procure the amounts they have pre-ordered. Our tea powders are blended right before shipment and adjusted slightly for a consistent taste from month to month.

How it works:

  1. Send your wishlist by the 15th to join the next grind-and-ship
  2. We confirm pricing, lead times, and shipping window
  3. We allocate and lock your batch

Pricelist:

Product Name Price Suggested Dose Price per Cup
M1 Rp 2,100/gr 3g Rp 6,300
M3 Rp 3,500/gr 3g Rp 10,500
M5 Rp 5,000/gr 3g Rp 15,000
H3 Rp 3,000/gr 3g Rp 9,000
G3 Rp 3,000/gr 3g Rp 9,000

Loose-leaf single origin tea

Sushe Chaguan’s understanding of Japanese and Chinese tea is informed by practical experience of the effects of terroir and time. Though the lineups shift regularly — once a year for Chinese tea and regularly for Japanese tea collections — each tea is carefully vetted to be ready to enjoy from the moment it arrives in your hands.

We offer modest discounts for B2B purchases above a minimum quantity.

A) Chinese loose-leaf tea

Each year, we assess tens of different harvests from different tea-growing regions, steeping again and again in different conditions to test each tea’s mettle. This process culminates in the release of a yearly Chinese tea collection that comprises up to 20 teas, each available in varying amounts.

When the yearly collection of teas runs out, that’s it. A fresh curation will be ready in the following year.

B) Japanese loose-leaf tea

Japanese loose-leaf teas are curated and sold as a set; they cannot be purchased individually. In H2 2025, for example, SSCG released the Everyday Kyoto collection — it contained several different sencha and hojicha suitable for different moods, hours of the day, and setting. Our Japanese tea sets are released a few times a year.

B2B consultation and recipe development

Cafe owners that use SSCG powders and teas may request additional support — from menu R&D to serving styles in a cafe setting. These consultations are included in the price of the tea. We do not offer cookie-cutter baseline recipes or protocols; rather, each of my customers crafts unique signatures by combining my suggestions with their own creativity.

Our B2C offerings

Retail consumers can purchase piecemeal from the yearly collection of Chinese tea or at minimum one set of our scheduled Japanese tea collections.

For example: you might order a single gram of Gushu Hong 01 and five sets of the current Japanese tea collection. Another person might order 40 grams of Wuyi Dancong and just one set of the Japanese tea collection.

Consumers looking for the fairest pricing on Japanese branded tea powders (such as Marukyu Koyamaen, Yamamasa, etc.) can also register their interest for private preorders. This is subject to local availability.

Finally, we are developing a teahouse menu that combines our experience in traditional Chinese medicine and global beverages, ranging from tea, spirits, coffee, and traditional medicine. You can learn more by following @sushechaguan on Instagram.

Ancillary services

Guests who want to dive deeper into the world of tea often ask us for additional perspectives. Generally, we’re happy to share what we’ve learned from our access to top kitchens and thoughtful F&B across three countries. Those looking for this type of dialogue can begin by arranging a Chinese tea session with SSCG. This is a must: as the tea unfurls, so will our conversation.

Tea for balanced living

Customers can also consult with SSCG about how they might build a more balanced, optimal day-to-day with different teas or ways of drinking. I have counselled guests with differing health concerns, varying daily routines, and taste preferences.
