Who We Are
Welcome
Tea as respite. Tea as lineage. Tea as more than trend.
That’s the story of Sushe Chaguan — one that officially begins in 2014, but connects to a narrative that originated centuries ago.
Our History
Our “dormitory teahouse” is rooted in over a decade of personal practice.
Like many others, Adeline’s entry to the world of tea began with names like Harney & Sons, David’s Tea, and TWG. While she was studying in the United States in the early 2010s, these scented, blended concoctions served as her initial proving ground.
In 2018, her fledgling corporate career brought her to Japan, where tea became a daily respite amidst a hectic schedule.
Shortly after resigning, she moved abroad once more — this time to the source of the oldest tea tradition in the world, China.
During her half-year in Beijing, Adeline’s days were punctuated with regular tea sessions full of reflection. She lived in a dorm, brewed tea daily for friends, and visited the Maliandao Tea Market every week. Some days, she’d sip tea in the presence of her tea master, his wife, and their friends. It was in those moments that Sushe Chaguan — the “dormitory teahouse” — took formal shape.
Upon return to Indonesia, further exploration revealed that tea has played a significant part in Adeline’s lineage. Her genealogy can be traced to tulou in southeastern Fujian, where tea was the daily beverage of choice, much like the rest of the country. The generations that followed emigrated in Central Java, Indonesia, establishing a tea factory that operated for several decades.
Adeline’s career in tea is, in many ways, a return home.
About Adeline
After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Suffolk University, Adeline Esther worked for some time as a salarywoman in Japan. She is fluent in business and day-to-day Japanese (JLPT N1 certification and excellent scores in Business Japanese Proficiency Test). She also speaks functional Chinese. In 2025, she received her Japanese Tea Master certification.
What Sushe Chaguan does
Sushe Chaguan procures Chinese and Japanese tea of the highest quality for a discerning audience.
We communicate directly with local farms and factories to acquire consistent blends and exclusive lots; we negotiate in Japanese and Mandarin for the fairest prices; we assess and curate rigorously to identify the finest specimens; we deal with international shipping, taxes, and duties so that our customers don’t have to.
Sushe Chaguan was established as a business entity in Japan to serve global clients. Adeline’s day-to-day operations are based out of Jakarta and Surabaya, in twin tea studios that also function as her office. Business activities are carried out from Indonesia, China, and Japan.
Her family operates a Japan company based in Osaka; matcha purchases sit under that company.
Our Philosophy
Real quality speaks for itself, and Sushe Chaguan listens. We curate tea with discernment for those who understand that true satisfaction comes from quality, not contrived glamour. Selected for clarity, balance, resonance, and a return to center. Good tea should be consumed thoughtfully, with an approach rooted in truth and wisdom.
